Railway embankment behaviour due to increased axle loads - A numerical study

Abstract Due to an increase in axle loads, the development of excess pore water pressure and settlement a railway track foundation fine-grained subgrade soil can be observed. A thorough understanding mechanism is essential for settlements design potential ground improvement. In this paper, three dimensional numerical study presented, which investigates effects loads trains on both settlement. Special attention given soft layer beneath embankment influence improvement (deep mixing columns). As result, leads considerable pressures layer. This more significant case heavy load (32.5 tons) than that light (16 tons). addition, cyclic loading lead vertical displacements pressure. The use deep columns reduces significantly.
